Ambition without pretense is truly inspiring.

I have an altruistic idea which I must act upon with careful, effective calculation combined with expedience. I wish to set up an art sale whose end goal will be to donate to the Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy relief. I am still figuring out the logistics.

One barrier includes standardizing my digital images to dimensions appropriate for printing. Should I even worry about this? Maybe just print them out as they are?

Then there's the cost of the prints themselves. I will have to do price comparisons and weigh quality as well. I feel this is the strongest barrier, but I may just print in surplus. I feel if I make the initial investment, it will pay off. My gallery is varied and, as many have said, falls positively unto the eye and mind.

In addition, I must find something - like thin plastic envelopes of various sizes - to protect the art from the elements. I do not want to be stuck in snow or rain and have my art ruined. I also wish to provide the customer with a means to protect their art. Then there's the lightness of the prints themselves - maybe find some cute glass paperweights to ensure the prints do not blow away?

Something I have going for me, though, is the relative ease in which I can create a setup. Having met Bren Bataclan years ago at the Charles River Festival, it amazed me how such a simple presentation - a folding picnic-table with no stands or holders, just a collection of paintings on its surface - could be so effective. In addition, the Smile project is simple, effective, altruistic.

Ambition without pretense is truly inspiring.

I have a lot of questions, but I feel I will make the right decision, and as he says, you just have to take the risk. One of my favorite sayings used to be "Carpe Noctem". I am not even sure if the Latin is grammatically correct, but it references nighttime being a receptive, quiet time, so - seize the night, in contrast to seize the day.

Best,
